César is a ♂ boy’s name.
César is a French, Spanish and Portuguese form of Caesar, which was originally a Roman cognomen, that was popular with the Julier family (see Gaius Iulius Caesar).
It is not conclusively clarified, from which Latin term the name César derived, but probably from “caedere”, which means “to cut out” or “to hit”. According to a legend, Gaius Iulius Caesar was supposedly born by Caesarean section, which is why he was called Caesar. César therefore means “the one cut out of the womb”.
The name César is ranked #2072 overall.
